Paper Lanterns

We wrote our wishes on the paper skin
Held them up and let the night come in
Your hand was shaking, so was mine
We said the stars were running out of time

And if the wind should carry us apart
I'll find you by the glowing of your heart

Paper lanterns floating high
Little fires in the open sky
Every promise that we couldn't say
Burning brighter as they drift away

Years go by like rivers to the sea
Still I keep that summer close to me
The lake is quiet, the city's loud
But I still look for you above the crowd

And if the wind should carry us apart
I'll find you by the glowing of your heart

Paper lanterns floating high
Little fires in the open sky
Every promise that we couldn't say
Burning brighter as they drift away

Light it up, light it up
One more time for the two of us

Paper lanterns floating high
Little fires in the open sky
Every promise that we couldn't say
Finding its way home to you someday
